  • Then, continue to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, also known as the "city of a thousand windows." Berat is one of the best-preserved examples of Ottoman architecture in the country. The typical districts, cobbled streets, traditional houses, and stunning mountain views add to the charm of this city.

  • Gjirokastër, also known as "the stone city," has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. It is the birthplace of Albania's greatest writer, Ismail Kadare, and, on a less literary note, the former communist dictator Enver Hoxha.
